Surfing on Bondi Beach
Bondi Beach is world-renowned for great surfing and sunbathing just steps away from the heart of Sydney. If you have always wanted to try surfing but never had the opportunity, this trek is for you! Hosted by David Schlessinger, W’86, this trek will depart the Westin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, for a 90-minute introductory surfing lesson at Let’s Go Surfing. The lesson includes surfboards, wetsuits, rash vests, sunscreen, and small-group instruction from an expert coach (note: no goggles provided). There are changing facilities for you to store your belongings while surfing; all you need to bring are your bathing suit, towel, and flip-flops.
After surfing, we will have lunch followed by a leisurely, 3-kilometer-walk along Campbell Promenade to Bronte Beach, where transport will be waiting for the return trip to the Westin. You can expect to be back at the Westin by 3 p.m.
Hiking in the Blue Mountains (weather permitting)
Just a few hours from Sydney lie the Blue Mountains, a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Our host, Stephane Chatonsky, WG’97, is keen to show hiking enthusiasts at the Forum the spectacular scenery around the Katoomba area of the Blue Mountains. Highlights of the Katoomba region include the spectacular Three Sisters rock formation, the Scenic Railway trail in the Jamieson Valley, Katoomba Falls, and the Blue Mountain’s own “Grand Canyon.” The group will depart the Westin at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, by minibus and spend the day hiking at a moderate level of difficulty, returning to the Westin at around 6 p.m. A boxed lunch and water will be provided; each participant should be sure to wear suitable hiking shoes and clothes and bring a backpack and sunscreen.
